Roulette seems like a simple game, but it’s far from it. The game has its own features and pitfalls. Beginners do not know how to act in certain situations, which is why they often lose their chips. Here’s how to stay in debt and avoid common mistakes.
The aim of the game
Roulette was invented by scientist Blaise Pascal. The French device became the prototype from which the rest of the wheel was created. The product is considered a true symbol of casinos. It is installed on the facades of entertainment facilities, used as a splash screen on specialized web-resources. There are two main types of roulette:
- American;
- European.
The rules of the game in these two types have a few similarities. The differences lie in the number of sectors. For example, the American version has 38 (two zeros – simple and double), and the European type has only 37 cells with one zero. All sections are identified by numbers: 1-36 with an assigned colour (red or black). The “Zero” or “double zero” is coloured green.
The aim of the participant is to guess the number on which the ball launched by the dealer will fall. It is possible to bet not only on the number, but also on the colour of the cell. The size of the winnings varies. If the player guesses the colour of the box, his bet is doubled. If he guesses the number, the number of chips is multiplied by 35.
How to bet correctly?
Total bets can be classified into two types – internal and external. The first type is played extremely rarely. The latter types fall out more often, but the odds of winning will be smaller. Internal bets imply guessing a certain figure. The amount of winnings in this case is multiplied by 35 (for example, 100 staked euros will bring 3,500).
Bets can be placed both on a single digit and on a number of adjacent digits. Chips can be placed on the dividing line between two numbers, thus forming a “split”. The winnings on it are 17 to 1. Placing the chips on one horizontal line is called a “straight”. The payout ratio is 11 to 1. Some players use a “corner”, which means placing a chip on the edge of four numbers.
Roulette has simplified betting variations with odds of 2 to 1. These involve guessing a colour (red or black), an even or odd number, or the range of a dropped number (1-18 or 19-36).
Rules for beginners
As you sit down to play roulette, you must remember that there is no universal strategy, just as there is in cards. Experienced gamblers advise beginners to use simple bets, rather than guessing the numbers. Many gamblers are convinced that there is a pattern to the numbers. Science completely refutes this belief. Even in terms of probability theory, it is impossible to calculate on which number the roulette ball will fall. There are no regularities in roulette, and the numbers are entirely at the discretion of chance.
Only the martingale principle remains a valid roulette strategy. This strategy involves doubling your bet after each loss. Betting is usually suggested on the opposite colour. For example, if you initially lost on black, then chips should be placed on red all subsequent stakes until you win, and vice versa. Falling ‘zero’ means switching to a different colour regardless of your winnings.
Beginners should follow only one rule – do not fall into gambling. The only way to make money at roulette is through sheer luck. Millions of “strategists” have tried to learn the secrets of the game, using various tactics, but it led to losing the pot. Therefore, if you are unlucky at roulette, it is better to play for another day.
